Our first glimpse inside the Bonding Bees Box.

what's in the bonding bees box

Everything that we received in our July “Couples Race” themed Bonding Bees Box. This looks like SO MUCH FUN!

So what is all this stuff?

This month’s insert is a pamphlet that explains “The Couples Race.” Basically, you will “travel” to 4 countries doing challenges along the way. As a couple we are extremely competitive so this is right up our alley!

There were about 20 pages in total (so we won’t post them all) but this first one details our theme for the month.

The itinerary lists each of the countries that we’ll be traveling to.

Each country has facts, challenges and other fun additions like suggested listening.

The page of challenges explains what you are supposed to do as a couple. For instance, this page tells us how to play Mancala.

There’s even a page with a featured couple! We love that Bonding Bees did this – too cute!

Hot Chocolate

You might have noticed our itinerary mentioned a snack break. you’ll be enjoying some frozen hot chocolate with these 2 packets of Swiss Miss!

Prince of Peace Ginger Chews

Prince of Peace Ginger Chews are one of our absolute favorite candies – so you can imagine how excited we were that they were in this box! These will be used in our China Challenge!

Chopsticks

This set of chopsticks will also be used in our China Challenge. Any guesses on what we’ll be doing?

Incense Sticks with Burner

These Nag Champa incense are supposed to be burned to “set the mood” while we’re in India! This is a really cute addition because it gets you into the spirit of this challenge!

Coloring Sheet

Enjoy some relaxing coloring while in India as well! Complete this elephant with your partner.

Colored Pencils

Of course you’ll need some colored pencils to complete your coloring. There were 6 different colors included in this packet.

Mancala Boards

We received 2 boards to play Mancala on while we visit Kenya. This will be our first time playing Mancala!

Beans

These beans will be used as our game pieces for Mancala.

Luggage Tags

Our favorite addition to this epic journey is our matching set of luggage tags. One side says, “Life is a journey best traveled together.” and the other side says, “Adventure awaits” and covers our personal information.

How cool are these, we love the colors!

Henna Ink

While in India we’ll experiment with Henna Tattoos. This little wrapper contains a whole lot of pigment!

World Map

This world map is super cool and would look great in almost any room of your home.

Pins

To go along with our map we received 2 small sheets of stickers and 4 pushpins to track our journeys. We think this is really neat – and will definitely be hanging this!

Okay so now what?

Now we have an epic date night.

Our first stop was India – in addition to some awesome new henna ink we’ll also we learning some new Yoga poses.

Here’s Mr. Not a Tree giving us our tattoo… we knew this would be special when he kept saying, “This is how you make it good.”

What we ended up with. Apparently, that’s making it good.

Next we moved on to Kenya with some Mancala. This is actually lots of fun to play and while the game was close…

Mr. Not a Tree ended with more beans in his store! For shame! We’ll definitely be playing this again!

At this point you are supposed to take a snack break and create a frozen hot chocolate but we skipped that because we wanted to make the frozen hot chocolates with the kids. We now are in Switzerland and our first challenge is yodeling. We could have opted to video this but… will save ourselves the embarrassment.

Our other challenge for Switzerland is a puzzle that Mr. Not a Tree immediately understood and figured out. Here it is solved. This is what happens when you live with an analyst.

Our final country was Chine where we played a game with our candies and chopsticks. First we picked it up and passed it to our partner who then put it in our mouth. This was easy as pie but next you have to do it left handed … personally we did great but Mr. Not a Tree just couldn’t pick up the candy with his left hand. Too bad…

Our final challenge in China is to create the character for love. Ours is on the left and Mr. Not a Tree’s is on the right.

And our very final challenge involved the facts from all 4 countries and solving a riddle. Here’s a shot of the most modest winner ever. All in all this was tons of fun. We are always looking for new and different things to do during our quality time sessions (that’s my love language) and this made for a great night!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation and presentation. The Bonding Bees Box is great for any couple – it costs less than a night out and there’s no need to seek out a babysitter. This game was fun and completely different than anything we’ve ever done before! The presentation is great, everything arrives perfectly. The quality is awesome – the instructions are clear and laid out everything that we need to do and there’s even a couple little extras included for when the challenge is over. Curation is fantastic. This game was well put together and really gave us enough activities to fill an entire evening, what’s more we had a lot of fun! I’ll be laughing about that henna tattoo for the rest of my life!
