Here’s the Box Breakdown

what's in the spice breeze box

Here’s everything that we received in our Spice Breeze Subscription Box for August. As always there are four recipes as well as four complete spice kits. Sometimes spice kits include just one spice packet but we’ve received as many as three before!

So what is all this stuff?

Our first recipe kit is Ajapsandali, a Georgian culinary spice kit. this is a traditionally vegetarian dish made with eggplants but can easily be turned into an omnivore’s dream.

Our spice packet for this recipe includes; coriander, marigold, garlic, methi, paprika, caraway, black pepper, fenugreek, hyssop, mint, savory and chili.

Our next spice kit is Filipino in origin and goes by the name Chicken Inasal. This recipe includes a lot of annatto which we aren’t huge fans of so we passed for this month. Annatto is from the “Lipstick Tree” and colors the food it’s seasoned with orange-red.

Our spice packet for this recipe includes; annatto, lemongrass, lemon peel and ginger.

If you had asked us when we first unboxed this what recipe we were most likely to make, we would have totally said the Fattoush Salad. We decided to go a little more exotic (our husband actually over ruled us and chose something else). Fattoush is Lebanese and is served with one of our all time favorite seasonings Sumac as well as pita chips.

Our spice packet for this recipe includes; allspice, black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, fenugreek, nutmeg and ginger. Our second packet includes just sumac.

Our final recipe this month is the Aussie Burger which comes from… you guessed it, Australia! This burger is also referred to as the “Burger with a Lot” because it has double protein and many fun colorful layers. Our husband is a bit of a burger connoisseur so he was really excited for this.

The spice packet for this recipe is actually used in a side salad we’ll be making and not in the burger at all. In our spice packet we have Tasmanian Pepperberries (we actually love their flavor)!

Okay so now what?

Now we get to cooking

The recipe calls for chopping the pepperberries – we opted for the mortar and pestle instead (we didn’t want to shoot the pepperberries all over the kitchen).

We mix the berries with lemon juice, salt and oil in a bowl (this is our dressing). Notice how the berries have changed to a purple color, how cool is that?

Then we chop 4 large tomatoes

As well as 2-3 kiwis

Toss with our dressing and then set aside.

Now we start frying our burgers.

And simultaneously frying our eggs. This is the most perfect egg we’ve ever fried by the way.

Once you’ve completed that you’ll fry your buns (very shortly) bun side down and you’ll also carmelize your pineapples.

Once that’s all done set out each of your ingredients (and feel free to add more like bacon or cheese) and let everyone build their own burger. Ours is the bun-less one. The other is husband’s which stayed very traditional with beets, egg, lettuce and pineapple. He also put ketchup on the side. These were delicious and VERY filling (I mean double protein amirite?)

So in summary

Presentation: The Spice Breeze package is lovely to open – the spices look beautiful. All of our items arrive perfectly as well.

Quality: We love the spices that we receive in Spice Breeze. Many are organic and all are delicious as well as flavorful

Curation: We think these kits are absolute perfection! This month we received our favorite spice so we’re partial but we love that you even have the option to choose your spices.
