Here’s the Box Breakdown

whats in the june spice breeze

Everything that we received in the June Spice Breeze Package. This package was inspired by the flavors of both Seychelles and Sweden!

So what is all this stuff?

Smorgastarta Spice Pack

This Swedish Culinary Spice Kit looks like a cake. However, once you open it up you’ll realize that it’s a lot more like a layered sandwich!

There is just one spice packet for this recipe kit that includes; horseradish, green peppercorns, fennel, dill and celery.

Quinoa Salad Spice Kit

Meaning “Mother Grain” to the people of South America, quinoa is great for your body with good amounts of both fiber and protein.

This blend includes; Aji panca, cumin and oregano as well as green jalapeno.

Kari Koko Spice Kit

This Seychelles Spice Kit has 3 different dishes in one! Salad, rice and “ladob” comprise this tasty dish!

Our spice blends include; turmeric, cinnamon, coriander, onion, chili, cumin, garlic, curry leaves, fenugreek, ginger, yellow mustard, cardamom, and black pepper as well as nutmeg and cinnamon.

Pwason Griye Spice Kit

Another spice kit inspired by Seychelles, this grilled fish dish is very popular throughout Seychelles. Typically the fish is served whole!

Our spice kits include; tamarind, garlic, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves as well as cardamom, cinnamon, cloves. cumin, thyme, coriander and white pepper. This is the recipe that we decided to make for the month.

Our first step is to make our chutney. To do this we heat a tablespoon of oil in a pan.

Then we add both our onions and sugar. We cook this for about 5 minutes.

Now we’ll add tomatoes, salt and Pwason spices 1 and allow this to simmer for about 15 minutes or until it thickens.

We now move on to creating our paste. We combine our Pwason Spices 2, cilantro (or parsley), ginger, garlic and oil to create a paste. You would also add chili to this if you are going to do so, we’re cooking for children in addition to ourselves so we opt to leave that out.

Our paste thoroughly mixed!

Ok. So truth time. This recipe called for snapper or halibut or sea bass. When we went shopping we found one bag of (less than 1 pound) of Halibut (this recipe calls for 2 pounds) for $21.99… we were like…. yeah, no. Not happening. So… here’s some Cod.

We cute parallel lines in our filets and fill with our paste.

Then we grill. Unfortunately, we weren’t aware how flaky fish can be when grilling… no biggie though. We pulled it when it was done cooking and everything came out fine.. even if a little mangled.

Here’s our fish served alongside our chutney!

This really was such a gorgeous meal! The flavor of the Pwason was incredible and a favorite for the ENTIRE family!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation and presentation. The Spice Breeze Package delivers not only spices and recipes but also inspiration each month. We guarantee this spice package will breath new life into your recipe game! The presentation is great, everything arrives perfectly. The quality is amazing, each packet contains unique, organic, and all natural spice blends. And curation is fantastic. We get the point that this packet contains the flavors of Sweden and Seychelles and we love that you can customize your own packet!
