My first glimpse inside the Unplugged Book Box for August. The colors for this box are always teal and black.

Everything that came in our August, “Off the Grid” themed box. These items are the kind that remind you of gazing at the stars while camping or can be used while you are doing just that! This month the items that were included were useful and smelled amazing! I could smell them as soon as I opened up the box!

So what is all this stuff?

Our first insert tells us about this month’s theme.

And the reverse lists each of the items included in this month’s box. There are contests associated with posting each item you received on instagram to win free Unplugged Book Boxes!

This second insert has the September Unplugged Subscription Box Theme Reveal on it. The theme for the 1st anniversary box is, “A Walk Down Memory Lane”.

The other side tells us how epic September’s Box will be. First Unplugged is switching to more environmentally friendly packaging and how excited they are to roll out the first anniversary package, which has been in the works for quite some time!

Our final insert is meant to be used in conjunction with the box, the front side lists reasons to unplug from both work and technology. Which for us is both…

And the other side includes the monthly playlist. I think this is a really great way to tie in the seasonal elements that this box works with!

Remember Me by Chelsea Bobulski
remember me

The first item in our box is the hardcover new release for the month. This novel looks amazing and I can’t wait to read it! This story follows Nell Martin as she moves to the Winslow Grand Hotel. Strange things begin to happen and Nell begins to have visions of a dead boy. Once Nell learns of a murder at the Hotel and must work to lift the curse it put upon her and the bellboy. In the process Nell also realizes how she is connected in history to the Winslow Grand Hotel.

I love spooky / eerie stories and this one looks like it fits the bill perfectly so I cannot wait to read it! And of course once I read it I’ll pass it on to Penelope who I’m sure will be eagerly awaiting it!

Neverworld Wake Water Bottle

The first bookish goodie in this month’s box is this water bottle made exclusively for Unplugged Book Box by the Unplugged Book Box team. The bottle was inspired by Beatrice Hartley of Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pssl. I think it’s cool how they made the colors of the bottle match the colors of their logo – cute touch!

Illuminae Candle

The best item in my opinion that came in this box is this exclusive candle from Book Nook Candles. This Hypatia candle is named after the science rescue vessel from the Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kaufman. Additionally, there was a subscriber only discount included to save money on your next candle purchase.

This candle has a beautiful floral scent in addition to a wood wick. But what makes it most unique is this really cool holographic glitter on the top! I think this makes it so cool and unique! I thought at first it might just be an overspray or sticker but it isn’t!

Skyward Bath Bomb

Next up in our package is this skyward bath bomb from Brandon Sanderson novel that features Spensa. You’ll be able to escape amongst the stars just like her with this fragrant bath bomb. If you don’t have a bath tub you can also use this as a foot soak! This was made exclusively for the Unplugged Book Box by iBeauty Gifts.

Vampire Spray

If you are going to be “Off the Grid” you’re going to have to deal with bugs… well you can now soothe the sting and itch with this Twilight inspired anti-itch spray created exclusively for Unplugged Book Box by Hued Shoppe who used plant based products to create consciously crafted skincare items. I really enjoyed looking through their Etsy shop! This all natural spray uses menthol to soothe and cool the skin!

Family Business Enamel Pin

The final item in our box is the third in an installment of pins that represent one of the creators favorite fandoms. This pin is Supernatural themed (whose protagonists just so happen to live off the grid in an Impala). I usually pass these cool pins off to my daughter who lovingly puts them on her bookbag.

The back has a nice, black, plastic closure that doesn’t allow the pin to poke through so you could, if you so desired wear this on your clothes.

So in summary

Presentation: Everything was packaged well and arrived to me perfectly in my Unplugged Book Box for August.

Quality: Since most of the items in this package are handmade by different small vendors and are exclusive to this package, thus making them unavailable elsewhere I’d have to say the quality of this subscription is awesome!

Curation: This “Off the Grid” themed box celebrated the final month of the summer and I think the assortment of items as well as the book came together quite nicely. What a great month from Unplugged Book Box.
