Subscription Box Review

subscription box review

The first glimpse inside the BoxyLuxe from Boxycharm for September. Everything is packaged pretty well with bubble wrap.

beauty subscription box

Everything that came in my “All Access” themed box from BoxyLuxe. This is full of so many products and there’s a wide variety as well which makes it really interesting. By the way the dimensions of my box were 14X7X6 and it weighed 3.3 pounds – it is variation 7L.

So what is all this stuff?

Our box insert

The reverse lists each of the items that we received along with their retail values. Thanks portrait mode for doing me dirty like that!

IGK Mistress Hydrating Balm
iigk mistress hydrating balm

$29

The first item in my box is one that I’m really excited for. This hydrating balm from IGK serves as a leave in conditioner that adds lots of hydration. I love the way it smells (like beachy and coconut-y). While I haven’t tried it out yet I know my hair can take all the hydration it can get and this one promises not to weight hair down which is great!

Tarte Park Avenue Princess Palette
tarte park avenue princess palette

$45

Ahh… a sigh of relief! I received this palette and NOT the water bottle and Spongelle loofah! This would be a repeat for some subscribers so Boxy offered a customized option – with the water bottle, I was not a subscriber when BoxyCharm sent out this palette so it makes sense that I got it. I have to say this packaging is quite decadent!

This palette is interesting. Those first two shades are brightening rather than highlighting and then you have a mixture of bronzers and contour powders most of which are matte which is pretty interesting. From top to bottom you have swatched: Halo, Enhance, Carat, Princess Cut, Angle and Crown. The formula has that creamy vanilla scent that most Tarte shades do.

Violet Voss Essentials Eyeshadow Palette

$29

Next we have ANOTHER palette. That’s kind of crazy in itself but Boxy takes it a step further and makes it this really pretty eyeshadow palette (not that I don’t have enough already). This is the essentials palette that features 10 shades – 4 shimmers and 6 mattes that are pretty much shades you’d find in the world around you… which is why I think it’s called Essentials!

I have to say that I love when brands put the shades names right below them. It makes it so easy when I write these reviews! From top to bottom theres: Cream (shimmer), Sand (matte), Terra Cotta (my fave and matte), Gold (shimmer), Emerald (shimmer), Pink (shimmer), Dusty Rose (matte), Plum Berry (shimmer almost duo-chromy), Cinnamon (matte) and Black (matte).

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Rubino
stila stay all day liquid lipstick

$22

Next up in our box we have a lip product from Stila. This stay all day lipstick is their classic formula that i only kind of, sort of like. I’m not sure how many different shades were sent out in this month’s BoxyLuxe packages but this is a pretty color for fall even though it isn’t really a color that I would normally gravitate towards.

Here it is swatched and I have to say that while there is a bit of transfer this lipstick stays PUT for a long time… the claim is 12 hours but … I think it may be longer. It’s also infused with avocado oil and vitamin e to nourish lips and keep them from drying out.

Sutra Clipless Curling Iron with Cool Tip

$65

The next item in our package is the highest in value. It’s a hair tool that I know I won’t use but I chose it because I thought it might be great in an upcoming giveaway. I think the alternative to this curling wand were a set of brushes. I have somewhat curly hair and really try not to use heat in my hair so this just isn’t the right product for me. I have never tried anything from this brand but now they are on my radar!

Glow Recipe Pineapple-C Bright Serum
glow recipe pineapple-c brightening serum

$49

I love skincare. This one is so cute and will look so great on my vanity! This brightens skin using 22% pure pineapple juice which is rich with vitamin c, natural lactic acid and bromelain enzymes. It also contains chamomile, aloe and vitamin e to soothe skin as well. This is a one ounce bottle. The smell of the formula is a bit like pineapple but also vitamin-y as well if that makes sense?

By the way I love this packaging!

Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask
dr. brandt hydro biotic recovery sleeping mask

$52

Holy price point! I am pretty sure this was the first spoiler for this BoxyLuxe and is the second highest priced item. I am really pumped to try this as one of it’s claims is that it reduces redness and inflammation. It balances skins naturally occurring as well as locks in moisture. I haven’t tried this yet but I think this is a great addition!

Hank & Henry Blickity Black Eye Liner
hank & henry blickity black eye liner

$20

The final item in my box for September is this liquid liner from Hank & Henry. Each subscriber received the color Blickity Black. This is part of the Slick with It line of eye products and is vegan.

Okay so when I first saw this I was like … eh that’s kind of “muted”. It’s a matte finish but I will say that that liner stayed around for a LONG time, which to me says that if you have hooded eyes and have trouble with transfer this is going to work for you. I’ll have to test it out and let you know!

So in summary

Presentation: Everything was packaged well and arrived to me perfectly in my BoxyLuxe.

Quality: I liked each product’s quality in this box, even the ones I wasn’t so sure about at first. I do think Boxy does a great job of selecting brands with good reputations.

Curation: This was a good assortment. There is only one thing I think is kind of odd and that’s that I received 8 products when there is supposed to be 9-11 but honestly with the price point this box is awesome!

Box Economy: For the price of this box ($49.99) we received $311 in products which is amazing!
