Our first glimpse inside the Ipsy May Subscription Box.

subscription box review

Everything that we received in our first Glam Bag Plus. This is actually really nice!

So what is all this stuff?

Wanderess Seascape Eye Shadow Palette
wanderess seascape eyeshadow palette

$25

Our first item is worth the price of our box! This 6 pan palette from Wander Beauty features 1 matte and 5 shimmers.

It really does give us all sorts of ocean vibes though! We will say we were kind of bummed with how wonky some of the shades (particularly Sea Foam) looked in the pan. It was almost as if they cracked when they were placed inside.

Here is each shade swatched. The top is where we put our only matte, Sand Dollar followed by Champagne Harbor, Sea Salt, Golden Reef, Sea Foam, and Coastal. We were actually surprised, while these didn’t have the highest color payoff the quality was overall good and we are excited to play with them!

Purlisse X Kandee Johnson Butter Me Orange Creamsicle Body Butter

$24

Next up we have this 6 ounce tube of body butter from a collaboration between beauty influencer Kandee Johnson and Purlisse. We haven’t been blown away by Purlisse products in the past but love Kandee Johnson. Regardless, we’ll be passing on this lotion to someone who will actually use it because we just don’t use lotion that much. We do love the packaging though and think orange creamsicle sounds like a delicious scent!

Glam Glow Bubble Sheet Deep Cleanse Oxygenating Mask

$9 (each)

We received three of these Bubble Sheet Masks from Glam Glow. We are kind of over sheet masks but that bubble prospect is roping us in. And after reading some really good reviews we are really yearning to try these out!

YENSA Tone Up Primer Essential Glow

$35

Next up in this month’s Ipsy Glam Bag Plus is a full sized primer from Yensa. This product leaves a satin finish and uses something called 8 Superblacks Essence which is an infusion of Black Sesame Oil, Black Seaweed, Black Tea, Shitake Mushroom, Black Rice, Korean Black Raspberry, Nettle and Chia Seeds. We aren’t sure how excited we are to receive this.. we did just get the Touch in Sol primer in our Boxy Charm Box. But we’ll definitely give it a try and see how it stacks up!

Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in Saucey

$18

Next is our favorite item in this month’s Ipsy Plus a lip gloss from Huda Beauty. This is the first product we’ve tried from them and we love it. Controversy aside (there are some serious allegations against Huda stealing ideas from Beauty Bakerie who we love) this product and formulation are BOMB!

Swatched this is ultra pigmented and very metallic. While it can be worn as a lip topper this is definitely a statement even as a stand alone product! The applicator is also nice and the smell is that ever familiar cake batter scent.

Illumasqua Coloring Lip Pencils

$17.86 (each)

Finally in this month’s Glam Bag Plus we have 2 lip liners from Illumasqua a UK Based beauty brand (which accounts for the odd scents in the product value). We can always use some lip liners… however after looking at their shade selection they sent us, “Lust” and “Media” which are very similar. That kind of left us baffled!

The two liners do swatch nicely however we have to say we prefer a bit more firmness in a pencil like this unless we are misinterpreting what this product is intended to do. The colors are pretty though and maybe once we use them on the lips we will grow to like them!

So in summary

Presentation: Everything arrived to us perfectly in our first Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. They did take care to package everything so it wasn’t rattling around in the box as well.

Quality: We feel like they did a really good job of pooling together products from brands that are coming out with innovative and high quality items. Also brands you don’t hear much of that are at the cusp of becoming very, very popular!

Curation: We feel like this mix was nice and while we won’t use the lotion the other items will definitely get put to good use. We didn’t receive a mascara which is key… because beauty boxes LOVE to send you black mascara … over and over and over again!

Box Economy: For the price of this box ($25) we received about $164 in value which is absolutely incredible!
