My first glimpse inside the Misfits Market Box for this week. It’s important to note that all of the packaging that Misfits Market uses is biodegradable or recyclable!

So what is all this stuff?

First up in my box for this week is Romanesco. This type of broccoli is so pretty and has all those cool little Fibonnacci spirals on it! This tastes much like broccoli and cauliflower and so, we will most likely cook it that way as well.

Next up is Kabocha Squash… now I will start by saying that I’ve never had this before and when something pops up that seems either exotic or new I always try to test it out. This LOOKS a lot like an acorn squash and so I’m hoping it tastes that way as well, I’ll keep you guys posted.

Then there’s the Jicama. In the unboxing I could NOT remember what this was even though I was able to customize my box and selected this. I did look it up though and found out that this root vegetable is nutty and flavorful and you cool it the same as other root veggies. I’m looking forward to trying this out as well.

I selected some lettuce in my box this week as well, Mostly because I’ve been on a bit of a salad kick. This is iceberg and while I know other lettuces pack more of a nutritious punch I personally just love iceberg, sue me.

Next up with a terrible photo is yellow summer squash. I order this  a lot because it’s a huge hit with my whole family. I love having it in foil packets on the grill with zucchini and a bit of olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Simple and delicious! There were four included in my box in total.

Yummo! Purple Onions are simply the best onions out there, hands down, no questions asked. There were three included in my box for this week – I’ll most likely use these in salads, sandwiches and other raw dishes (they’re best raw)!

Then of course, what yellow squash would be complete without a little of the ZUCH! There were four zucchini’s included in my box. One was split in half but completely usable, nothing in this box is inedible and I wonder sometimes what classifies these fruits and veggies as “Misfits”.

Acorn squash is my absolute favorite and so whenever it’s available to add to my box I do! This one is rather large. If you are wondering how you cook it, it’s very simple. We halve it and scoop out the seeds, then we slice it thinly and you can totally leave the skin on. We lay it on a baking sheet flat and baste it with some olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper and that’s it. It is wonderfully nutty and creamy and just absolutely excellent, I’m surprised it isn’t more commonly eaten!

Another of my favorites are beets! There were two beets included in my box for this week. Something that I like about this subscription is that in the larger box they tend to double the amount that you receive which is great for larger families who may need a little more to have a full serving for a meal. Typically I prepare my beets in a vinegar, sugar and corn starch glaze that is my favorite! My grandmother made them that way and I am proudly continuing that tradition!

I also chose eggplant for my box this week. There were two included. It’s important to note that all the produce included in your box from Misfits Market is both organic as well as non-gmo. For these we’re thinking of making a nice eggplant parm with our own homemade spaghetti sauce!

There were six limes included in my box. I used to get confused on how to use up tart citrus fruits like lemons and limes but have realized the flavor profile is excellent for salad dressings and marinades (and I personally love lime and lemon so I couldn’t get tire of it if I tried!) We’ll most likely use this in one of my new favorite recipes grilled lime, ginger chicken. Sound good? Because it is!

The final item in my box for this week is cilantro and look I get it, there are a LOT of people out there that don’t appreciate cilantro. I do. I think it’s wonderful and add it to almost everything! It’s my holy grail seasoning and … when in doubt I add cilantro. There was one bunch included – we’ll either use this for pico or add to a salad or marinade. The future is unknowable.

So in summary

Presentation: Everything is always packaged well and the fact that everything is either recyclable or compostable is awesome. I know these are supposed to be “ugly” but there wasn’t anything ugly about it, everything arrived to me in good shape!

Quality: The fact that the fruits and vegetables included in the Misfits Market Box are all organic and non GMO is HUGE. This box not only helps prevent food waste but it delivers high quality, all natural, undoctored produce right to your door each week!

Curation: I selected each of the items that came in my box for this week so I personally think that the assortment that I received was pretty darn boss!
