Here’s the Box Breakdown

Our first glimpse inside the Monkey Coco STEM Box.

what's in the monkey coco stem box

Everything that we received in our “Basic Circuits” themed Monkey Coco STEM Box. There are 2 projects included!

So what is all this stuff?

Our box insert is a booklet. This describes the steps we have to take to complete our projects as well as some basic circuit knowledge. We love that this subscription includes the “why” of the process at hand. We found this little book to be such a huge help!

Here are each of the pages in our book. We thought this was really comprehensive and the animations make it much more engaging for younger kids!

We also received 2 “Knowledge Cards” that explain 2 different types of circuits.

These 2 cards tell us the themes of each of the Monkey Coco Boxes. We are impressed with how far they go into STEM!

Paint

We received 12 paints and one paintbrush that will be used in our Table Lamp activity.

Table Lamp Activity

Our first project is creating a table lamp.

This is the easier of the two projects that we received and is the one we decided to create because we felt like it would resonate with both our 9 year old and our 11 year old. In this packet is everything that we’ll need to create our little lamp.

Crossing Fire Line Activity

Next is the, “Crossing Fire Line Activity” which is a little more complex but still looks like lots of fun. Our 11 year old is really looking forward to creating this one!

Everything that we need to create this project is included in this bag.

Here is everything that is included in the Crossing Fire Line project. We didn’t complete this project. We opted instead to first do the table lamp project. We’ll be creating this in the future.

Okay so now what?

Now we create the table lamp project. We always have our husband complete theses projects with the girls because he really enjoys them.

Here you can see as this project came together from beginning to end. The instructions were simple and to the point and the girls had a lot of fun! In the end they learned how to complete a circuit and how things like lamps and other electronics operate which is a really valuable lesson.

So in summary

Presentation: Everything was packaged well and arrived perfectly. We like that they separate the two projects into their own bags and think the box is super cute.

Quality: We feel like the projects that we received were really well thought out and we love that they focus on a specific concept each month and really drive it home.

Curation: We felt like this box really did it’s job of explaining how circuits work and made it a point to help kids understand a (more often than not) foreign seeming concept.
