Pura Vida (translates to pure life or simple life in English) is a handmade jewelry and bracelet company that originated out of the laid-back and simple life found when two college friends took a graduation trip to Costa Rica in 2010. They fell in love with the chill lifestyle of the locals and when they came across two struggling local artisans selling colorful string bracelets they wanted to help them. So they asked the artisans to make 400 bracelets to take home. Once back home they put the bracelets on display at a local boutique and within days sold out completely! That is when the ‘aha’ moment occurred…
These pieces were more than just simple friendship bracelets. They were a movement that celebrated the simple things in life—or “Pura Vida,” as Costa Ricans would call it.
These bracelets symbolized the need to enjoy life’s little pleasures, take the time to slow down and live your life to the fullest!
Today, Pura Vida is providing a steady income and positive work environment for more than 800 artisans in Costa Rica, El Salvador, and India. They have partnered with 175 charities around the world giving back and donating over $2.8 million!
