My first glimpse inside the Spice Breeze package for April.
Everything that came in my package from Spice Breeze for April.
So what is all this stuff?
Our box insert. Each package from Spice Breeze takes you to a different location across the globe. This month we’re traveling to South Korea to celebrate the birth of Siddhartha Gautama during the Lotus Lantern Parade
The first dish in our package is aptly Korean and is a bowl of rice with plenty of toppings. This dish is a great way to use up leftovers and can be customized to suit your own tastes.
There were two spice packs included with this recipe. The first included Red Miso and Shiitake Mushrooms. The second included just Korean Chili Pepper Flakes.
Since this is the Globetrotter package this package only comes with two recipes but DOUBLE the spices! Great for a family as large as mine. Our second dish is Za’atar – a spice blend I commonly see on one of my favorite shows Great British Bake Off. It’s commonly used in the middle east as a table top spice blend as well as mixed with olive oil for a beautifully flavored condiment.
There was just one packet included for this recipe and it included sesame seeds, coriander, sumac, thyme, cumin and black pepper.
Okay so what next
Based on what I had on hand I chose to make Za’atar. This recipe was really simple and smelled amazing. The day before we made the chicken we marinate it in lemon juice, za’atar spices, garlic and olive oil.
Then we mix it with our chicken and refrigerate overnight.
Then all we do is bake and while this is supposed to be served with couscous and a salad we did a fusion dish and made some turnip greens and dressing to go along with it. The result… an extremely tasty dish!
So in summary
Presentation: Everything was packaged well and arrived to me perfectly in my box from Spice Breeze
Quality: The quality of the spices included in this subscription is great – they’re all organic and non-gma
Curation: I really like that the Za’atar is one that I’ve personally wondered about and the festival in Korean was a really cool touch!
