I was very excited when Pick A Cup contacted us to try their subscription box of K-Cup single serve coffees.  My office has A Kurig coffee machine and I have always wanted to try other coffee blends beyond the 3 in the kitchen.

Each Pick A Cup subscription box comes with an information card giving you ordering information and the website address.

Coffee, Coffee and More Coffee!!

Our box came a the surprise mix of coffee types.  All together we received 25 K-cups (regular boxes come with 24, unless an extra one falls in like ours 🙂 )  with 2 cups of each flavor.  We received 12 different flavors of delicious coffee.

Our Pick A Cup box came with following coffee K-Cups in alphabetical order:

Adagio:   Caffe Napoli

Balzacs Roasters:  A Dark Affair

Green Mountain Coffee: Our Blend

Guy Fieri: Unleaded Decaf

Hurricane: Coconut Fudge Typhoon

Martinson:  Breakfast Blend

Martinson: Kona Blend

Timothy’s: Columbia Excelencia

Timothy’s: Sugar Bush Maple

Twisted Pine: Caramel Sea Salt

Twisted Pine: Wakey Wakey

Wolfgang Puck: After Dark Decaf

Wolfgang Puck:  Hawaiian Hazelnut

Because everyone has their own taste and preference in coffee I will not be giving a review on each type of coffee I received.  I can say that the selection within the Mystery Box was amazing; a great mix of light, med, dark, flavored and decaf.

Verdict: I love a great cup of coffee and this box delivers!  The mystery box is the best way to go in my opinion because you get to taste a number of coffees you might not otherwise try – especially if you had to commit to a full box in a retail store.  The price point is a good for the mystery box as buying all of these flavors retail in the smallest box available would be very very expensive.  The same can be said if you choose only one roast type as the box promises a minimum of 3 varieties in your chosen roast.  If you already have a favorite coffee, the price per cup is high when compared to buying a bulk box in a retail store, but with this box you are also buying the convenience of having everything taken care of for you and delivered to your door.  Overall, this box makes a great gift for a coffee lover, and a lovely monthly coffee tasting experience.  I hope they constantly add new exciting coffee varieties to the mix to keep things exciting each month.

Mmmmm, the smell of fresh coffee.  If you are like me and the closest thing to “fresh” coffee is when you open a new bulk tin of pre-ground coffee, the world of premium coffee is a real treat.  The moment I opened the box the aroma of fresh roasted coffee filled the kitchen, and most of the main floor for that matter in minutes.  The packaging was simple in this case, just plastic bags with hand written information on each one.  I love seeing the “roasted date” on each bag, and like the site says, it literally was just before it must have been mailed out to us.

We received three samples of coffee in our sample pack box.   Note: we received three 400g bags in our sampler, but the website indicated 100g bags come in the sample pack.  Also, when ordering, you can choose the grind type if you wish.  Our samples came as whole bean, the recommended way. There are brewing instructions on your coffee bags as well as on the Coast to Coast Coffee website.

The box came with a simple contact card with basic information.  This really would make a good gift idea and I will keep this card on hand.

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Blend:  Roasted May 19, 2016. Light to medium roast.  Yirgacheffe is a town in the Sidamo region of Ethiopia with an elevation of 1500-1900m above seas level.  This coffee had a sweeter taste than the others, and very little sugar was needed.  I really liked that it was organic and fair trade – makes you enjoy each cup just that little bit more.

Mexico Chiapas Blend:  Roasted May 19, 2016. Medium Roast. This coffee bean comes from the southern edge of Mexico and grown at a slightly lower elevation (1000 – 1500m).  A medium roast is recommended to bring out the sweetness of the bean.  This blend was very nice.

Papua New Guinea Enorga Blend:  Roasted Date, May 19, 2016.  My favorite coffee of the sample pack.  I like coffee with a bit of a punch to it and this medium to dark roast delivered.  Grown by the Highlands Organic Agriculture Co-op at a high elevation 1300-1750m this coffee has it all; bold full flavor, and an inspiring story of how this product is helping the community escape poverty.

Verdict:  I love the smell of coffee and these beans made the house smell better than a coffee shop!  I love supporting local companies, and even more so when that local company is supporting fair trade, organic items that are improving the lives of people around the world.  Before this, my knowledge of coffee was limited to the menu at Starbucks, but now I can enjoy incredibly fresh coffee at home.  There is a HUGE taste difference between this coffee and that of a pre-ground grocery-store blend.  I will forever be a coffee snob after this. 🙂
