The amazing people at Carnivore Club were nice enough to send us the May 2016 Carnivore Club Box.  Inside, a world of meat my taste buds, and my families’ would never forget.   Just seeing the box gets me excited for what awaits inside. The picture above is not a stock photo supplied to us, that’s our box on our table, looks awesome, right?  The box itself is very high quality.  Thick cardboard, great print and graphics all signal to me that this is a company that prides itself on high end product.

Our package this month contained 6 items all together (4 sliced meats and 2 tube meats); but that is about the worst description ever when you learn about the product this month.  For May 2016, Carnivore Club has found GIO Deli Meats, a third generation artisan who prides themselves on preparing the finest Italian cured meats on the market.Carnivore Club meats May 2016

The Salami Milano and Geno where a great chub meat.  Very dense meat packed with flavor.  My favorite was the Geno, as I liked the slight smokey flavor.  Online these retail for approximately $7.50 each.

The Presidents Prosciutto ( $7.50) was amazing.  I could not believe how thinly sliced this meat was, and I was impressed by the plastic seperators between each slice.  Its the little attention to detail that stands out.  The prosciutto literally melts in your mouth and is almost sweet in taste; apparently a product of the 90 day aging process each meat goes through.  The meat is rather fatty, so if you don’t like rich meats, this one may not be for you.

The Capocollo ($6.69) had a nice peppercorn finish to it.  It was great on its own, with cheese and even as a topping on pizza we made with it.

Sporessata  ($5.99) was a nice dense deli meat. The flavor was not a pronounced as the Capocollo or the Hot Sporessata, but still quite nice.  I quite enjoyed the Hot Sporessata ($5.99).  It reminded me of hot wings, but in a sliced deli meat.  Again, these were great by themselves or used in our family pizza night.

Verdict:   Overall I was very impressed by this box.  I did not know what to expect from Carnivore Club and honestly thought it was going to be beef jerky.  I was pleasantly surprised by the care and attention to detail they place in the meats selected and packaging presented.   Priced out online this box would have cost just under $50 for the meats and shipping, so for the price I think you get great value as you are also getting the curated package; a lot of work goes into seeking out these great artisan meat producers.  A mouth watering monthly treat!  …..and great for Father’s Day (nudge nudge) 🙂
