Spice Breeze is a monthly spice subscription box. Choose from two different subscription options. Here’s the Box Breakdown

Everything that we received in our November Spice Breeze package. We always love the way this looks when we open it!

 

So what is all this stuff?

Our first spice kit for the month hails from Cambodia and is called Amok and is the national dish of Cambodia.

We received one spice packet to complete this recipe which contained; lemongrass, galangal, lemon, turmeric, makrut lime, chili flakes, basil, bay leaves and lime peel.

 

Our second kit is Cambodian as well and is called Neorm Masour. This would pair well with your Amok as it’s a light salad.

Our spice packet for this dish includes just one ingredient – Kampot peppercorns. These peppercorns are unique in that they offer notes of flower, eucalyptus and mint.

 

Next up is Pastel de Choclo, a Chilean spice kit. This is a corn casserole popular throughout South America. Our husband really likes these sorts of dishes and we toyed with making this recipe but it came down to the ingredients we had on hand.

This spice kit includes Aji panca and cumin.

 

Our final spice kit for the month is South African and is called Bobotie. This creamy dish is a subtle blend of sweet, sour and spicy.

This kit includes 2 spice packets. The first contains; amchoor, yellow mustard, curry leaves, fenugreek, onion, ginger, coriander, turmeric, cayenne, cumin, cilantro, garlic, cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon. The second packet contains; lemon thyme, nutmeg and turmeric.  We decided to create this recipe this month.

 

Okay so now what?

Now we get to cooking.

This recipe is more about time than it is hands on cooking. You’ll find that the recipes included in Spice Breeze have different levels of difficulty so you won’t be forced to rush on weeknights! Our first step is to melt butter in a pan.

We then add two chopped onions and cook until golden.

Next we add our meat, salt and first spice packet. We cook this until the meat is crumbled and cooked.

In a bowl we will now whisk together with 1/2 cup of milk.

It will look like this.

We will then add the above mixture, sugar and almonds to our meat and mix well. Then we’ll stir in the vinegar and lime juice. Finally we’ll put the mixture into our baking dish.

Now we’ll preheat our oven, and in another bowl whisk together 2 eggs, 1 cup of milk, our second spice packet and salt and pepper. Then we’ll pour this over our meat mixture.

We bake this for 30-40 minutes.

Here is our completed dish, we served ours with a cabbage salad and rice!

 

So in summary

Presentation: Everything in our Spice Breeze arrived to us excellent and we love the way it looks!

Quality: We really love the Spice Breeze spices, they’re organic and all natural – and they taste phenomenal!

Curation: We love the recipes for this month and we love that you have the option to customize if that’s something you desire!
