Here’s the Box Breakdown

Our first glimpse inside the Nostalgic Candy Club Box

Everything that we received in our box. There are a total of 10 different pieces with a combined total of 17 pieces of candy in this package.

So what is all this stuff?

Our box insert

The reverse details each of the featured candies for the month and also has some fun candy facts

Smarties

Are Smarties THE most iconic candy? Quite possibly! We received three small packets full of this sugary treat. Definitely a candy from our younger years (that has somehow withstood the test of time)!

Chick-O-Sticks

YES. When we think of childhood candy.. we mentally see a big glass case with assorted penny candies and on the counter a big cup full of Chick-O-Sticks for 10 cents! Because we are really nice we split these up amongst the kids so they could try them and they were taken aback…. they’re apparently still every bit as crunchy, sweet and peanutty as they used to be!

Goetzs Caramels

Another candy that has stuck around. We still find these creamy caramels in our kids Halloween bags. This packet contained 10 of the classic Goetzs Caramels… and we were surprised because we don’t ever remember these being sold in a bulk pack like this… just individually wrapped.

Twin Bing

We are so disappointed in this blurry picture. But this is the package for the Twin Bing candies. By the time we realized our picture turned out like this … we had already tried these out!

There were 2 chocolate rounds included in this package… in the center there’s a cherry flavored cream. This used to be available in a variety of different fruit flavors but.. the people spoke and they said they liked cherry.

Reed’s Hard Candy Rolls

These root beer flavored hard candies have been around for over 100 years. We aren’t huge fans of root beer so we shared these with the kids (who loved them)!

Gummi Cupcake

We think this gummi cupcake wasn’t included so much for it’s retro value as much as it was for it’s fun surprise factor. It’s quite cute and tasted so yummy!

Reed’s Butterscotch Hard Candy Rolls

So maybe the root beer candies weren’t our wheelhouse … these were. We love creamy butterscotch and these were a dream. They’re currently in our car for something sweet on the road!

White Taffy

While we aren’t sure what these are called we do know that they’re from Brach’s (the same company that makes candy corn) and have a creamy, fruit flavor. We do remember these from our childhood but receiving one was always a rare and slightly random occurrence.

Fruit Tootsie Rolls

One of our absolute favorite candies of all time are the fruit flavored tootsie rolls. We received two in this box in the lemon and lime flavor. Our personal favorites are cherry, vanilla and lemon … so we are 1 for 3!

Fireball

Are these retro? Not sure. This is another candy that we find in our kids Halloween bags… and that they won’t eat (they say it’s too spicy). For all we know these may still be the ones from our own childhoods that we could never bring ourselves to eat because they were so fiery!

Idaho Spud

This candy bar has NO POTATO… which is kind of confusing. But still delicious. A coating of coconut on the outside, dark chocolate beneath and a center of cocoa flavored mallow comprises this bar that’s been around since 1918

And just so you guys know how much we liked it.. it’s our box favorite!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation and presentation. The Nostalgic Candy Club Box is a fun way to relive the past with tasty treats sent straight to your door! The quality is awesome. A lot of the companies that were included have been around well over 100 years. The presentation is great. Everything arrives perfectly. And the curation is amazing. We are really loving finding some (new?) old brands and falling in love, while also being taken back to a time when life was simpler and candy was… cheaper! If you are looking for a great candy subscription Nostalgic Candy Club has what you are looking for!

The Rock Box Subscription Review | May 2018

The Rock Box is a rock music subscription box that sends a quality t-shirt and 3-4 mystery items each month for $32.99 with free U.S shipping. The mystery items can be things like keychains, stickers, koozies and other killer Rock n’ Roll swag. This is my first time reviewing this box which was sent to us at no cost for review.

April 2018 The Rock Box

So first off I have to mention that Def Leppard was one of my favorite bands in the 80’s and I have a lot of their music downloaded on my phone today. So I was so happy to get this t-shirt which is a  quality shirt, it’s very well made and the decal is nice too it’s not like an iron on where it feels like plastic or rubber, it feels like part of the fabric and I like that very much.

AC-DC Bottle Cap Bottle Opener Keychain: I love that this bottle opener is a bottle cap, how neat is that? This keychain has some weight to it, it is very nicely made and heavy-duty.

We got another keychain too, this Pink Floyd one is a lighter weight chrome and the writing is etched into the metal so again this is also very high quality. Keychains usually take a beating and these two seem like they will last longer than the car the keys go to.

Misfits Decal: This is a big decal, it’s about 5 inches long and nice and thick with the infamous Misfits skull logo. This is a very well made decal, it is perfect for your car, laptop or anywhere you would like to put it.

And lastly, we have a 2 disc Metallica Hard-Wired CD set. This was released in 2016 and has 12 new songs on it. I have not heard most of these songs but Metallica being one of the most iconic Rock Bands of all time I imagine that they must be good. I was very surprised to see this CD set in the box it’s a very cool item to include. I can’t wait to listen to this a little more, I skimmed through it but that was all so far.

Nicole’s Notes:

I love 80’s hair bands, actually I like most music from the late 80’s and 90’s so I enjoyed every item I got in this box. The only thing in my opinion that could have made it better is if we got a CD from that time period but hey everything is still awesome that we received. This is the first box that I have seen like this and I really like the idea of a Rock Box. I have seen their past boxes and they were awesome too. I can’t wait to see what they put in future boxes. In the Boudoir Subscription Box Review | May 2018

In the Boudoir is a lovely subscription that sends pampering bath and bedroom products like decorations, desk accessories as well as bath and body items. This subscription is $34.99 a month and shipping is free. This box was sent to us at no cost for review. Orders must be made by the 28th to get your box by the 5th-10th and they have 4 different plans you can choose from. This is the May Box “Mayflowers”

I received a lovely Thank You note and all of the products were wrapped very nicely.

$9.95

Our first item to be un-wrapped was Poo-Pourri sitting pretty spray, I have seen this many times but this is the first bottle that I have ever gotten and I was quite intrigued by this. I wondered if it worked or not. I gave this to hubby to try because if it works for him it will work for anyone, and I was so very pleasantly surprised to find out that it does in fact work. I was able to walk into our bathroom after he was done and THAT my friends is a first. This product gets an A+ from me !!!

$9.95

One Hundred Roses Bubble Bath by B. Witching Bath Co.: This is a 2011 healthy beauty awards winner and I see why. This soak smells amazing like bathing in a huge field of roses, it has a real rose scent, not like an imitation rose smell. The bubbles lasted so very long and my skin was so soft and smelled amazing all night long I could still smell it on myself the next morning. This is one of those items that we hide from our children so we can save it to enjoy ourselves.

$10.95

“Love Letter” notebook: This is a 59 page lined notebook with an adorable quote on the front. The pages in this notebook are pretty thick, sturdy pages. This notebook would make a really great journal or even a recipe book, I have a similar book that I write my recipes in.

$10.95

Flower Power Yo Sox: Your feet can stay fresh all day in these anti-microbial and breathable socks. These are knee high socks so on my short stubby legs they go to almost my thigh (I am barely 5′) but I have a taller sock addict friend who will love these.

Nicole’s Notes:

I enjoyed all the items in this box very much and also found a new product that I now cannot live without and one that is beyond compare. Another great aspect of this company is their huge online store where they have so many products for bed and bath. I spent a good while looking at the site and it’s a great site with affordable prices so if you are not comfortable with the mystery or commitment of a subscription you can always just order things you know that you will like. If you want to check out In the Boudoir click the link below. As always thanks for reading our reviews.

xo, Peachy Box Gilt City Exclusive Subscription Box Review | May 2018

Gilt City xo, Peachy Box. Not a Tree Reviews paid for this box when Gilt City had them on their site for $35. This was an exclusive box for Gilt City NY, not a monthly peachy box, but these items have been in past boxes. Xo, Peachy is a lifestyle box that sends beauty and luxury items for $34.99 a month.

When I first opened the box I was greeted by this adorable quote.

Under the cardboard was the super cute “Hello Spring” info card and a Parabo coupon card.

All the items in this exclusive box.

$15

One of my favorite items to get in subscription boxes are these Spongelle. These came in 4 different zodiac scents Earth, Air, Wind, and Fire. This spiced neroli smells amazing and has a warm feeling when I used it. I think this might be my favorite one that I have tried so far.

$20 (approx)

Babydoll Face mask by Vana Body: This is a pink & white clay mask with coconut milk and floral essences. This is meant to combat dryness, irritations and revive dullness. This is a DIY mask that needs to be mixed with water to make a paste. I love using pink clay masks they work very well for my daughter who suffers from acne and for myself. I have not had a chance to use this one but it smells amazing and I am a big fan of natural skin care.

$20

Maneater self-sharpening eyeliner by Tarte: This went on very easily – it’s a waterproof gel formula made with amazonian clay. There was no tugging on my eye whatsoever, it also was a very pigmented black color and was very dark when I applied it to my waterline. This was the first time I’ve used any liner by tarte and I thought it worked very well.

$35

This natural rose quartz massager by Akar Skin is meant to improve circulation, eliminate wrinkles, and slim the face. While this stone is gorgeous I will probably never use it for it’s intended purpose. I do really like it though and it came in an adorable super soft pouch.

 $14

Tea Forte Kati Steeper Cup

I love this 3-piece set, I have never had one of these before and it works very well. This is a ceramic double-wall tumbler with a stainless steel infuser, brewing loose tea has never been this simple. My favorite part of this set is that it is dishwasher safe. I currently only have a Keurig coffee maker and I had gotten some ground coffee in another box so I put some in the infuser basket with boiling water and after about 5-8 minutes I had a really good cup of coffee which I was happily surprised about.

Nicole’s Notes:

I thought that this was a pretty great box all of the items I received, I liked this a lot and will definitely use all of the items. The retail value of these items is $104 and like I had mentioned this was a Gilt City exclusive box and cannot be purchased anymore but I’ve seen many reviews of their monthly box and they are amazing too. So all-in-all this is a really great subscription box with a nice mixture of items. If you would like to check out xo, peachy box click the link below and thanks for reading our review.

Check out the unboxy box video

Here’s the Box Breakdown

Our first look at the contents of our March Spice Breeze package

The spices that were included in the March package. We love how they changed the packaging… it’s a little glossier.

So what is all this stuff?

Our box inserts. One details changes to the Quad subscription that allow you to choose your menu. The other details each of this month’s recipe. This is a new addition and we really like that they added this!

Moussaka

Our first recipe is Moussaka a la Kleftiko. A mix of two traditional Greek recipes and made with lamb. Traditional Moussaka is a casserole but this uses parchment paper for a faster and easier cooking experience.

Our spice packet for this recipe includes; black pepper, thyme, cinnamon and bay leaves.

Mastic Tears

Mastic is a versatile spice that can enhance any dish. With it’s pine like flavor – a little bit goes a long way. This recipe kit came with 4 different recipe options – create a mastic dressing for salads, reheat with a firm vegetable like broccoli, fry with cardamom and ground meat or make a rice dish that uses a mastic cream sauce. We haven’t tried this yet but are kind of excited to use it in a rice dish

There are just 2 spices necessary for this recipe packet.. our mastic tears and cardamom pods.

Kuku Subzi

This honestly looked the most delicious to us but it’s not a dish that we can serve for the kids… because… well kids. This is a traditional recipe served for Nowruz – the Persian New Year

Our spice packet includes; turmeric, rosebud, black pepper, cinnamon, cumin, mace and cardamom

Gulyas

Our final recipe is a hearty soup made with Hungarian Paprika. As Hungary’s national dish this stew is typically made with beef while this one is made with sausage to save preparation time.

Because this seemed universally pleasing with it’s notes of; Hungarian Paprika, marjoram, black pepper and bay leaves. This was the recipe we decided to make for this month

Okay so what next?

First we heat up 2 tablespoons of oil in a large pot

Then we add 2 onions

As well as 1 pound of sausage cut into 1 inch slices

And 1 bell pepper cut into 1 inch pieces

Cook this until onions are transluscent and peppers are slightly browned

Add our Gulyas spices

And then our 32 ounces of beef broth and cubed potatoes. Cover and bring to boil – continue to cook for 10 minutes

Our final step is to add 3 tablespoons of tomato paste and cook for five minutes

An optional part of this recipe was to create a bread bowl from a round bread. All you have to do is cut off the top and scoop out the insides. If you are worried about waste… never fear you can use the bread from inside the loaf to dip in your soup (the kids really liked that).

Our result was a deliciously complex flavor that was hearty and filling. We love how simple it was to make but still was beautiful to see in the loaf of bread!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation and presentation. The Spice Breeze Subscription is a great way to enhance your kitchen skills as well as familiarize yourself with flavors from all around the world. The presentation is great. We love how beautiful the spices look inside this package. The quality is amazing. Everything is high grade and organic for superior flavor. And curation is simply excellent. The flavors are varied and give you a dinner to look forward to each week of the month!

Everything that we received in our April Glamour Jewelry Box. This mix is fun and bohemian. Perfect mix of airy and light but still delicate and feminine!

So what is all this stuff?

Bracelet

This black enamel bracelet forms to the wrist. The two bars adjacent to the charm give this a high end look.

However it’s business in the front and party in the back with this bracelet. Enjoy the comfort of a lobster claw underneath!

Midi Ring

This cute midi ring comes just above the knuckle and has a wonderfully bohemian arrow design. We love rings and this one is super cute. Probably our favorite item included in this box

Feather Necklace

Our final item in this box is this extra long chain with a really cool feather pendant.

The feather has tons of details and really keeps with the bohemian vibe of this box

Drew’s Art Box Subscription Review + Unboxing | May 2018

Drew’s Art Box is an art lesson in a box! Each box contains 4 lessons featuring a different art technique in each one. This box is ideal for ages 9-13 so we’ll be completing our activities with Penelope. Along with all the tools you’ll need to complete your project you’ll also receive detailed instructions and links to instructional videos. Boxes are $35 each

*product was received free for review

Check out the unboxy box video

Here’s the Box Breakdown

Our first glimpse inside Drew’s Art Box – this box is super cute

Everything that we received in our “Polymer Clay” edition from Drew’s Art Box.  We even have some tools of our own from back in our sculpey phase

So what is all this stuff?

Our box insert offers detailed instructions.

This is a full workbook of lessons and information. Perfect for homeschooling families or educators. There is a quiz and vocabulary in addition to the links to the lessons which is really cool.

Tin Pan

This will be used to help shape our sculptures

Acrylic Roller

This roller is actually really neat. We thought it was a hollow dowel until we looked at all the items included in the workbook

Tool Set

This set includes 5 plastic tools (which are great for kids) to work with to manipulate your clay.

Cupcake Liner

We are guessing these were included to hold our glue

Q-Tip

Another useful tool when working with Polymer Clay Glue are q-tips. We received one in our Drew’s Art Box

Sculpey

We received 1 lb of Sculpey. This is the polymer clay that we’ll be working with in this box

Sculpey Adhesive

And as a companion product we also received this Sculpey Adhesive.

This adhesive is bakeable and works on most oven baked clays. We received a 2 ounce bottle.

Okay so show us what you made?

The box comes with a link that has clips for 6 videos. Each project has a practice prior to the actual project to help develop your technique

The first video familiarized us with Polymer Clay. We split our clay into thirds (each project uses about a third)

We then condition our clay… warming it up and making it more pliable

Next we roll it into quarter sized balls

We then roll those balls into “hot dogs”

And then we roll them out even further into foot long strips

We then practice making different kinds of coils

Here are our creations.

These coils are to prepare us for our pencil holder structure

We prepare by rolling out balls the size of quarters again

And again roll it out.

We then pour some glue out into the little holder

We create a round coil and then flatten out one side to be the base of our pencil holder

And then we score… these grooves help the pieces adhere better

Next we make a donut and score that as well to be the next step in our pencil holder

We put glue on both pieces and stick them together

Each step is the next set of coils – creating, scoring and gluing. The kids really liked this because they got to choose what type they wanted to add

We then pop this into the oven in our tin pan at 275 degrees for 15 minutes

The next lesson teaches us rolling “slabs”

So for this one we need our scoring tool, a third of our clay and our roller

We practice rolling out the clay and also how to find and rid the clay of air pockets

This all helps us to create our bowl

After we’ve rolled out our clay we then use the tin foil pan to carve out a circle

Once we have a circle, then we fix up the edges

We let the girls decide what sort of coil they wanted to add and they went with the “wave” pattern

We then apply our pattern to the edges to make sure it fits appropriately

After we have it how we want it we need to score and glue it. Then we design the inside… this was another one we let the girls decide. We have to say that we don’t envy art teachers.. our inner control freak and desire to create something “perfect” kept trying to rear it’s ugly head. But in the end they did what they wanted and were really happy with it.

The fifth video teaches the “loom” technique. This practice asked us to create a square and weave together the pieces. Penny had trouble doing this… so we didn’t bother with photos and really tried to just help her get the hang for the finished product.

So for our final project we use our final third of clay and our knife tool

We split it in half and then roll one half out into a very long snake

We followed the instructions which had us lay it out like this

Then we take the other half of the clay and roll it out into four strips. We then cut those in half

Then we drape those pieces over and weave them into the existing coil

Now we trim our edges

And drape this over our tin pan – pop it in the oven to bake

Here are our three finished projects. The kids can’t wait to paint these… this was so much fun!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation, and presentation. The Drew’s Art Box is a great way to develop artistic technique in children who are homeschooled or just a great way to spend time with your kids creating things with your hands! The presentation is awesome. The box is adorable and everything arrives perfectly. The quality is fantastic. All our tools are great for kids and we received brand name products like Sculpey. Curation is phenomenal though and what really makes this box stand out. The lessons are amazing… they’re short enough that they’ll hold children’s attention but really help them to understand the technique. Wonderful box! We are so happy with what we made!

Keto Love Carrot Cake Almond Butter

Our absolute favorite item in this entire box is this carrot cake flavored almond butter. Not only is the jar extremely generous at 4 ounces but the Stevia they use has been de-bittered (which means if you get that aftertaste that Stevia tends to leave .. this won’t give you the same effect.) Use it on anything your heart desires… the flavors of the REAL carrots, lemons and coconut that they use to make this will shine through!

Almond Nomz Energy Bites

These delicious bite sized snacks are coated in almonds after first being rolled with nuts, dates, cocoa, coconut oil and fleur de sel. In addition to containing no refined sugars these bars are also; organic, paleo, non gmo, vegan and gluten free!

Healing Butterfly Matcha Green Tea Powder

Need a lift? Try this powdered matcha. Add this to your boiling water for a boost of great antioxidants and caffeine! We love Matcha so we’ll definitely be putting this to good use! Healing Butterfly was one of the companies that offered a subscriber only coupon this month as well.

Fat Snax Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is one of the brands included that we know and love already! These delicious and crumbly cookies are alternatively sweetened with Erythritol, Stevia and Inulin. In addition to the chocolate chip variety they also have peanut butter and ginger turmeric (which is the only one that we haven’t tried yet.)

LC Snack Pack Jack Cheese & Pumpkin Seeds

You know what moves our soul? Savory snacks. So getting some delicious cheese and pumpkin seeds is a TOTAL WIN! This the perfect snack for your car, desk or purse. Best part? Just 2 grams of carbs per serving!

LC Snack Pack Blackberries & Toasted Coconut

Have we ever told you guys how much we like toffee? Or almonds? We love them and we love this tasty, handcrafted and no sugar added candy! Additionally, Curly Girlz added a subscriber only discount this month as well!

So in summary

We look for three things in a subscription box; quality, curation and presentation. The Sugar Smart Box is an excellent way to get a good deal of sugar free and keto friendly snacks each month without the trial and error of procuring them yourself. We love that they do all the legwork for us! The presentation is great, everything arrives perfectly. The quality is amazing. Many of these snacks are handcrafted and are made with quality, organic and all natural ingredients. And curation is fantastic. This box is full of not only sugar free but very good tasty sugar free treats. Definitely one to try out if your on a special diet or just want to snack healthier!
