Goodfood Box (Classic Meals, 2 servings & 3 recipes) Review:

With my first initial Goodfood box I received a “Welcome to the Goodfood Family” booklet.  The booklet began by outlining why they started Goodfood and why they choose that name specifically. In short, they wanted to provide people with good food and help people create meals that are homemade with all fresh ingredients sourced at their peak… only the good stuff. The Goodfood company also emphasizes the importance of empowering its members to develop their cooking skills and help them to create balanced and nutritious meals with ease. The Goodfood difference: farm-fresh, original recipes, flexible deliveries, and stress-free meal planning. Inside you will also, learn about the contents of the box and the meal plans offered by Goodfood. Their focus is on making the world a better place by local sourcing, recyclable packaging, food waste reduction, and fueling learning.

Our recipes this week included:

  • Chicken Bulgogi Bowls with Roasted Chioggia Beets & Zingy Apple-Cuke Salad
  • Roasted Pepper Braised Chicken over Warm Bulgur with Cherry Tomatoes
  • Bangers & Mash with Onion Gravy & Crispy Cheddar Broccoli

Recipe #1: Chicken Bulgogi Bowls with Roasted Chioggia Beets & Zingy Apple-Cuke Salad

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Servings: 2

All the ingredients were provided for us to make the meal. The instructions were very straightforward. Some chopping, some mixing, some frying then cook and assemble as instructed.

Our kit was only for a serving of 2 but we stretched it for our family of 4 with some additional chicken and rice we expanded our 2 person meal to give us dinner for 4 people plus 2 lunches the next day. Now that is how our family gets meal delivery kits on a budget!

Everyone loved the flavors of the Korean chicken! This is a meal that my family will for sure make again with our own twist.

Recipe #2: Roasted Pepper Braised Chicken over Warm Bulgur with Cherry Tomatoes

Cooking Time: 25 minutes

Servings: 2

This meal was only meant to be for two people, but it easily satisfied two adults and one reluctant kid (see next sentence below).

The flavor of the roasted red pepper sauce combined with the bulgur was delicious. We will for sure be adding bulger to our nightly dinner rotation. This meal would have been five stars had I realized the chicken was thigh meat. Our whole family is not a fan of chicken thighs and I would have passed on this meal if I knew. Next time I know to do my research.

Recipe #3: Bangers & Mash with Onion Gravy & Crispy Cheddar Broccoli

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Servings: 2

This meal intrigued me from the start. I have heard this meal ‘bangers and mash’ being thrown around from time to time but really didn’t know much about it. It was delicious, maybe a bit too out there for the kids, but we, parents, loved it. The gravy was so delicious!!! And who would have thought we could have semi-fancy mash potatoes, gravy, and sausage meal in just over 30 minutes on a Wednesday (due to potato cooking time)?!

To bulk up this meal to feed our whole family we cooked up some of our garden potatoes and more sausages. Plus we even have leftovers for one person’s lunch the next day!

Verdict: As is the case with many people and families, we all get bored with eating the same foods for dinner, day in and day out. I am comfortable to say that even just for the few weeks here and there when we order meal delivery kits, it is a reprieve from the monotonous chore of planning and making the same meals and for that I am thankful. I went out on a limb and tried a few options that looked good to me, but maybe the kids wouldn’t enjoy it. Well, they did eat the meal as it was served, not too much picking it apart. They were well nourished and I can be proud of that as the mom! I find that these meal prep kits are still time-consuming to cook, but there is much less clean-up and no planning on my part. At our home, these delivery kits are a family affair as the instructions are simple enough for both my 10-year-old and 8-year-old to help. Sometimes it almost becomes that we have too many cooks in the kitchen, but I won’t complain when the kids are helping to cook dinner. If you are like me and you think that ordering meal kits all the time becomes too expensive, then use a few of my tips: order small (or the best sale price) and bulk it up with more meat, salad, or vegetables and use the coupons and referrals to save money. Happy Cooking!
