  1. Get the app.
  2. Cooking is made simple with a variety of recipe options.
  3. Want to earn free food? Join our referral program!
  4. Going on vacation and need to skip a week? No problem. Chefs Plate is flexible.

On the back of the booklet, they include more hacks to get the most out of your experience.

Our recipes this week included:

  • Loaded Greek-Inspired Burgers with Yogurt Sauce & Sweet Potato Rounds
  • Curried Beef Samosa-Style Bowl with Basmati Rice & Mango Chutney
  • Spicy Vietnamese-Inspired Chicken Stir-Fry with Veggies & Steamed Rice

Recipe #1: Loaded Greek-Inspired Burgers with Yogurt Sauce & Sweet Potato Rounds

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Servings: 4

All the ingredients were provided for us to make the meal. The only things we needed from our pantry were the oil and salt & pepper as well as the baking equipment.

There were two substitutions with this recipe. Instead of sweet potatoes, we received small potatoes, not a big deal, my daughter loves sweet potatoes but these were delicious too. Also, instead of artisan buns, we received ciabatta buns which were so good!

The instructions were very straightforward. Some chopping, some mixing, some frying then cook and assemble as instructed.

Our meal was for our family of 4 and there was plenty of food for everyone. There were no leftovers, but everyone was stuffed!

This was the first Chef’s Plate meal the family chose to try! It was a huge success, the whole family loved it! It was simple enough that even our 12-year-old loved helping to make it. And best of all no one complained about what was for dinner.

Recipe #2: Curried Beef Samosa-Style Bowl with Basmati Rice & Mango Chutney

Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Servings: 4

This meal took just over 15 minutes to make, so quick and so delicious.

The longest part was waiting for the rice to cook. Other than that all that was required was to cook the beef, and veggies, then mix up the sauces and serve.

The mango chutney and garlic aioli sauces took this simple meal to a whole new level. The combination of flavors was unbelievable and made us want to keep coming back for more.

There was so much food that we even saved some for leftovers the next day. I couldn’t wait for lunch! Yum!!!

Recipe #3: Spicy Vietnamese-Inspired Chicken Stir-Fry with Veggies & Steamed Rice

Servings: 4

As our last meal of the week, we couldn’t wait to try a Vietnamese-inspired rice dish. The whole family loves going out for Vietnamese food, so we thought this would be fantastic!

Another simple meal that the whole family helped make. All that was required was to cook the rice, ground chicken, and veggies, and then serve it.

There was plenty of food to feed our family of 4, however, the flavor was lacking and there was a minimal amount of vegetables.

The optional jalapeno peppers were a nice touch, but overall the meal was good, just not as amazing as we had hoped for.  It lacked anything special or unique.

Verdict: Navigating the role of chief meal planner and creator in our household, I’ve experienced firsthand the challenge of conjuring up enticing and flavorful recipes for my family. It’s easy to fall into the routine of preparing the same meals week after week, and while the rest of the family may not tire of them, I certainly do – both in the preparation and consumption. The arrival of Chefs Plate at my doorstep was a delightful deviation from the norm. Choosing from a diverse range of meal recipes, I aimed to introduce new flavors to our family palate while ensuring the kids would still enjoy the experience.

What pleasantly surprised me was the efficiency and relative ease with which each recipe came together. Foolproof, you might say. We not only discovered new dishes but also ones that resonated with the entire family. The meals are straightforward yet innovative, providing the flexibility to adjust spice levels or add extra sauce tailored to each household member’s taste.

While some may argue that meal kit delivery services tend to be pricier than traditional grocery shopping, others enjoy the zero food waste that comes with meal prep kits, like Chefs Plate. Balancing the desire for quality with budget-conscious choices, I recognize the importance of a good deal when it comes to food. Check out the enticing new member coupon code mentioned at the top of this review to not only save on costs but also alleviate the dinner decision dilemma. After all, we all need to eat, and scoring a great deal on delicious meals is a satisfying way to make dinnertime both enjoyable and affordable!

Verdict: It has been a while since I’ve received a Panty by Post box for review and I can honestly say it’s been too long! I adore Panty by Post! How can you not love getting super cute panties delivered in the mail each month?! I remember the last box I got included one of my all-time favorite and most comfortable pair of undies I’ve ever had (See my review here). So when this box came, I couldn’t wait to open it, so much so that I forgot to take a few extra pictures along the way, oops! I received a pair of lime green thong panties from the Premium Luxe line from the Canadian lingerie brand Blush. At first glance, I was not completely in love with the super bright lime green, but subscriptions like this get you out of your comfort zone and you may find your new favorite undie. The lime green has now grown on me and I love the crazy, fun color! The design of this panty is exactly the kind I would go for. The lace fabric is so soft and sexy with a dainty floral design and an unfinished edge gives it a bit of sass. I love that it doesn’t dig in and isn’t itchy like lace often can be. Having panties delivered each month is definitely something a girl could get used to!

If you are looking to treat yourself, or someone special like a girlfriend or wife. I would highly recommend you check out Panty by Post… you will not be disappointed!

Have you tried Panty by Post yet? What has been your favorite panty?

Goodfood Box (Classic Meals, 2 servings & 3 recipes) Review:

The first time you order from Goodfood you will receive a ‘Welcome to the Good Food Family” information booklet. It gives you some background on the company and how they got their start with the goal of helping people create healthy and nutritious meals with ease. They are also firm believers in making the world a better place through local sourcing, recyclable packaging, reduction of food waste, and education about the above.

Before my order was to be delivered I received an email asking if I would like to be part of a pilot program to reduce the use of the large cardboard box that often comes with any food box. I agreed and when my delivery came to the door the lovely gentleman was waiting for me to collect my paper bags from his reusable bin. If I was not home, he would have left my meals in a box as per usual.

Our recipes this week included:

  • Yogurt-Marinated Tandoori Chicken Breasts with Spiced Potatoes & Crunchy Marinated Cucumbers
  • Pan-Seared Salmon with Lemon-Spritzed Lentils & Wilted Greens
  • Empanada-Style Ground Beef Buns with Cilantro Dipping Sauce & Tomato-Pepper Salad

Recipe #1: Yogurt-Marinated Tandoori Chicken Breasts with Spiced Potatoes & Crunchy Marinated Cucumbers

Cooking time: 35 minutes

Servings: 2

As a family, we love meals that are straightforward but have a twist on the norm. This Yogurt-Marinated Tandoori Chicken Breast was just that. It included foods that are common in our house but added a delicious sauce to create a whole new meal.

With a little added chicken breast and potatoes we took this meal from 2 servings to feed our family of 4. A great deal for money-conscious shoppers!

Recipe #2: Pan-Seared Salmon with Lemon-Spritzed Lentils & Wilted Greens

Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Servings: 2

There aren’t many meals that are healthy and quick too! Okay, maybe this took us 15 minutes to cook, but that is pretty good for a complete meal from start to finish. There was not much to cook other than the salmon and some light heating for the lentil mixture.

The meal itself was average. Where it fell flat for our family was the lack of flavor. We love spice and full-flavour foods. The canned lentils were very mushy and bland. This was not a meal we will get again.

Recipe #3: Empanada-Style Ground Beef Buns with Cilantro Dipping Sauce & Tomato-Pepper Salad

Cooking Time: 35 minutes

Servings: 2

Empanadas in 35 minutes… sign me up! The whole family got involved in the making of this meal and it was delicious! The kids enjoyed pressing the dough and were so proud of their final product. There were very few steps and most of the time was allocated to the cooking in the oven.

I love when you can take a meal and really stretch the servings to feed a whole family of four. With the amount of dough included we managed to create 4 empanadas.

As an alternative next time, we may try adding some vegetables to the meat mixture. This was definitely one of our favorite Goodfood meals!

Verdict: With food prices soaring, we are always on the lookout for ways to cut costs and feed our family healthy meals on a budget. We don’t often order meal delivery kits but have been known to try them when they offer sales (which they always do for first-time customers). After having tried almost everyone at least once, we now keep our eyes open for the existing member sales and sign-up then. But we are quick to cancel after the trial ends. That is the key with meal delivery kits, if you don’t want to pay full price, keep tabs on your weekly subscription. It’s so easy to cancel or even pause the week. I know this is a fear for many people.

We love the variety and choices the Candian Goodfood meal delivery kit has to offer. It spices up our routine (no pun intended… haha) and gives our dinnertime meals a well-needed refresh. The meals are often geared at taking 30 minutes or less, which really isn’t much when you think about how long most food takes to cook. We don’t choose meal delivery kits to give us relief from cooking, but to give us new, healthy meal options.

Have you tried Goodfood? If not, don’t forget to use my referral code to save $40 off your first order.

What has been your favorite meal? I love recommendations.

Candy Experience – January 2022 Box: Original Box

The Original Box includes 6 bags of candy as well as a few throw-in tootsie roll candies. The candy is packaged in reusable heat-sealed ziplock pouches that keep it fresh until you are ready to enjoy them!

Inside you will also receive a printed list with a detailed description of each candy in your box. You can also see the candies that are included in the other subscription boxes. The Personal Box inclusions are the first 4 candies, the Original Box inclusions are the first 6 candies, and the Large Box (Love of Candy Box) inclusions are all 9 candies listed! I love this environmentally friendly option to use one printout paper for all subscription boxes, however, seeing the Smooth Chillies candy sure made me wish those were in my box. 🙂

On the flip side of the paper are the Nutritional Facts for each of the corresponding candies. I love this idea, however, do I really want to know how many calories or sugar there is in my candy?!

Midnight Mints

Delicate layers of chocolate and mint make this indulgent candy a delicious treat that everyone will enjoy. These are the perfect late-night snack as the name suggests!

These are absolutely delicious! I couldn’t resist sampling a few and then that few turned into half the bag. Let’s just say no one else in my family even knew these came in the candy box other than the photographic evidence in this review. They had a subtle mint chocolate flavor. The perfect smooth combination that led me to keep wanting more, they were that good!!!

Grape Lunars

The delicious grape sugar beads on the outside are packed with flavour, leading to a sweet and delightful grape jelly centre that will definitely leave you wanting more!

This was a huge hit for the kids! It started off with a rich grape smell, the taste not as grape flavoured. The sweet sugar beads combined with a jelly centre were a fun combination for the kids. In their words “it was like eating two candies in one!

Pastel Licorices

These bright coloured candy-shelled licorice pieces are a blast from the past. The multicoloured shells cover a desirable sweet black licorice inside. With each bite, you’ll remember why you loved them so much before.

These are a great snacking candy that I had forgotten about since I was a child going to my neighbourhood corner store. Now I can share my childhood memories with my licorice-loving daughter. Thank you for a fun blast from the past!

Rainbow Delight

Known for their superior quality, these gummies, made in Spain are a unique mixture of sour and sweet. The sticks are covered in a tart sugar that leads into a bursting sweet and creamy centre that will excite your tastebuds! Who wouldn’t enjoy a colourful, bite-sized rainbow?

There were mixed reviews of these in our family. However, I’m sure the kid who didn’t enjoy them will happily take more in a heartbeat! I personally love the texture and flavour! They have just the right amount of chewy, but not gummy outside and a marshmallow-like centre with a sweet and slightly sour taste, one might even see similarities to bubble gum?! Once I started eating them, I can’t stop!

Tropical Punch Taffy Town

Taffy Town definitely doesn’t disappoint when it comes to creating the best Salt Water Taffy in the world! Their taffy is the perfect combination of soft and chewy. This tropical flavour will remind you of a day on the beach with the warm blue water at your side.

Everyone agreed this is the best Salt Water Taffy we have ever had. I was soft and chewy with a mild sweet fruity taste.

White Chocolate Almond Bark (*Not the advertised: Marshmallow Foam Bananas)

White chocolate has always been a favorite of mine and this one did not disappoint! It was creamy and sweet with yummy whole almonds throughout. I had to stop myself from eating the whole bag.

Throw-in Candy –  Tootsie Rolls

Verdict:

This Candy Experience box won’t last too long in our house! If you are a huge candy fan, like me, then this is the box you need to get! Candy is delivered to your door each month from a Canadian company, it doesn’t get much better than that! Now, the only problem is that as my kids are getting older they also love their sweets, so I have to share (well…sometimes). With our Candy Experience box, I didn’t mind sharing a little as this box had 6 bags of candy and a great variety of different types of candies: Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, Licorice, Taffy, and two fruity gummies varieties. It’s really hard to say which is the favorite amongst our family as everyone prefers something with a little different texture and taste. One loves the Rainbow Delight, another loves the Grape Lunar, another loves the Salty Water Taffy and I have enjoyed pretty much everyone depending on what sweets I’m craving, however, those Midnight Mints went down way too fast, I only wish there were more…

Have you tried Candy Experience? Which are your favorite candies?

ARTSHINE in a Box – Specialty Box Review: Somebody To Love

Each ARTSHINE in a Box – Specialty Box comes with all the supplies you will need to create a beautiful seasonal-themed art project of your choosing. The structure of an online video tutorial from an Artshine Instructor ensures a wonderful masterpiece will be created and your child will be so proud to show off their artwork!

The ‘Somebody to Love’ Specialty box is the perfect art project for Valentine’s Day and it will make a wonderful gift for someone you love or to keep for yourself.

Each box comes with a guidebook with a few very helpful tips and simple step-by-step instructions that allow you to complete your artwork even without access to a computer and the online tutorial. This guidebook is where you will also find the link and password to access the video tutorial for this project.

Let the artwork begin…

First, you complete some sketches of who you want in your painting. These figures can be customized for each family member or loved one you choose to include in your painting. Adult male or female, young or old child and chosen hairstyles. Plus, add a dog or cat if you like.

Then the sunset painting and blending begins.

The ability to pause and rewind makes sure your child doesn’t miss a step and can go at their own pace without being rushed.

Bonus Projects: A bookmark to colour

Verdict: My kids love Artshine in a Box! This is the second box we have been fortunate enough to receive and it was so much fun! As a mom, I love how my kids can craft and create without me having to plan and gather all the little things, like a paint plate, water cup, paper towel, etc. Then at the end, everything can be popped in the garbage or recycled and clean-up is done. My ten-year-old setup and did the whole painting independently while following along with the online tutorial. She loved sketching and creating her family characters as seen through her eyes.  In the end, the painting turned out perfect with Dad, Mom, two cats, and two sisters! The whole process was very straightforward and took just over an hour from start to finish, with only a few minor hiccups along the way, as would be expected from a perfectionist.

With many extracurricular classes being canceled, due to Covid and the world the way it is, Artshine boxes allow kids to have fun and create art in a safe way. The video tutorials are like a private instructor teaching you, with the ability to pause and replay as often as needed. Your kids will love a subscription where they learn about new art mediums each month or they can choose their favorite one-time box to purchase with no commitment of a subscription. Artshine in a Box allows your child to have the freedom to create their own masterpieces, that they will happily display and share with everyone.

OatBox “Build your own plan” Review:

Inside my first OatBox review, I received a notecard welcoming me to better mornings! I did not get a notecard in my most recent box, so maybe they have changed things up, or because I am a returning customer they didn’t include the notecard?!

My “build you own OatBox plan” included:

  • Pumpkin Spice Granola
  • Coconut & Wild Blueberry Granola
  • Wild Blueberry & Coconut Oatmeal
  • Carrot Cake Oatmeal
  • Cranberry & Pecan Oatmeal
  • Mixed Breakfast Bars (Pack of 18)

With this OatBox, I decided to try a few ‘new to me’ products, including granolas, oatmeals, and an assortment of breakfast bars.

The October monthly specials were: Pumpkin Spice Granola and Carrot Cake Oatmeal. If you love all things pumpkin spice (PSL) then you will love this granola. The flavour was subtle and not too sweet. I love the crunch of the oats, that didn’t get too soggy with milk. And the pumpkin seeds were the perfect added touch! The Carrot Cake Oatmeal on the other hand was a hard pass! All you could taste was chewy dried carrots and no other flavors, it was very bland! As it was the monthly special I am not sure if they will offer it again, but if they do heed my warning!

The Coconut & Wild Blueberry Granola was an enjoyable crunchy breakfast granola. Nothing really stood out as far as the flavour goes, other than the coconut shavings, which I happened to like. I do wish that the blueberries would have softened up a little more and maybe had more flavour.

The Cranberry & Pecan Oatmeal was my favorite breakfast cereal in this box so far. I love the sweetness of the cranberries and the nutty flavour and crunch of the pecans.

With so many new breakfast cereals delivered this month we still have yet to try the Wild Blueberry & Coconut Oatmeal. I’m hoping that by cooking the blueberries they will soften up compared to the harder ones in the granola.

After having now tried many of the flavours of granola and oatmeal from OatBox, we decided to try the breakfast bars for something new. We figured these would be a great grab-and-go option for us in the mornings when we are short on time. However, they are fairly pricey so we aren’t in a hurry to eat them quickly.

In total, we got 18 cereal bars: six strawberry and cranberry bars, six date and pear bars, and six chocolate and banana bars.

So far we have only tried the date and pear bars. It was okay, kind of what I expect from a healthy breakfast bar. The date and pear had a slight grittiness, which is typical of those fruits. I am curious to see how the other ones compare.

Verdict: As a rule of thumb I much prefer granola over oatmeal, but this month OatBox definitely stepped up the game on oatmeals. With a touch of honey or agave syrup, it was just the right amount of sweetness for me. I like things sweet! My family loves Oatmeal so as usual, they enjoyed them all (with the exception of the Carrot Cake… avoid that one!) My whole family is big into our breakfast cereals. We love many of them on! But like many things we get in a rut with the same ones time after time. OatBox is helping us to switch up our meals and eat healthy in a hurry!

Fresh Prep Box (2-Person Meal – 2 servings & 2 recipes) Review:

My first reaction to my Fresh Prep “box” (insulated bag) was WOW!!! I could not believe the quality of this reusable cooler bag that my food and recipes were delivered in. The outside of the bag has this really practical, clear pocket to hold the recipes and the “Welcome” card.

The Welcome card outlines all the contact information for the Fresh Prep customer service team and many of the convenient reasons to choose Fresh Prep. Did you know that they have zero waste kits and nearly everything they send in the cooler bags can be reused or recycled?! You can return almost all the packaging and recyclables to Fresh Prep for them to sanitize and reuse or properly recycle.

Inside the insulated cooler bag were all of the ingredients for my weekly meals kept cool with reusable gel ice packs. The meat was packaged separately in its own insulated pouch.

Our recipes this week included:

  • Spicy Chipotle Beef Chili with Scallions & Aged Cheddar Cheese
  • Chicken & Gnocchi with tomato Rosé Sauce, Kale & Crispy Sage

Recipe #1: Spicy Chipotle Beef Chili with Scallions & Aged Cheddar Cheese

Estimated Cooking time: 30 minutes

Difficulty Level: Easy

Servings: 2

All the ingredients were provided for us to make the meal. The instructions were very straightforward. Some chopping, some mixing, some frying then cook as instructed.

Our kit was only for a serving of 2 but we stretched it for our family of 4 with some additional tomatoes, chickpeas, and rice on the side, we expanded our 2 person meal to give us dinner for 4 people plus 2 lunches the next day. We made a lot of chili!!!

Chili is one of my favorite meals and the Fresh Prep chili did not disappoint. We kept the chipotle spice to a minimum for the kids, but then kicked up the flavor for the adults. The garlic bread ciabatta buns sent this meal over the edge! For all the garlic lovers this crushed garlic was so amazing!

Recipe #2: Chicken & Gnocchi with tomato Rosé Sauce, Kale & Crispy Sage

Estimated Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Difficulty Level: Easy

Servings: 2

This meal was only meant to be for two people, but it easily satisfied two adults and one kid (the other kid decided to eat leftover chili from the night before)

We chose gnocchi as something new for the family that we have never tried and knew very little about. The meal was very easy to make. Even our 10-year-old was in the kitchen helping cook.

In our opinion, gnocchi tastes very similar to a perogy but without the filling. Even our very picky daughter ate a fair portion. I know lots of people love gnocchi and you’d probably love this meal, but I think it’s just not for our family. The gnocchi was just very plain and doughy even with the spices.

Verdict: Right from the second my box came, I was loving this ‘new to Alberta’ meal delivery kit. Everything just looked so professional and sleek! Don’t even get me started on the functionality and design of the insulated bag, you need to check it out for yourself in person to really appreciate it. The meals themselves were very straightforward, the card outlined the recipe instructions and ingredients, as well as the nutritional facts. Many of the products came vacuum packaged in airtight contains to maintain freshness. The biggest feature was that the serving size was very generous and allowed for the whole family to eat on a tighter budget using the 2-person meals plan (2 servings). I must be honest I don’t order many of these kits due to the cost value but when you can get 3 meals for FREE on your first box and it feeds your whole family, I am all for that!

The Goodfood difference: farm-fresh, original recipes, flexible deliveries, and stress-free meal planning. Inside you will also, learn about the contents of the box and the meal plans offered by Goodfood. Their focus is on making the world a better place by local sourcing, recyclable packaging, food waste reduction, and fueling learning.

Our recipes this week included:

  • Chicken Bulgogi Bowls with Roasted Chioggia Beets & Zingy Apple-Cuke Salad
  • Roasted Pepper Braised Chicken over Warm Bulgur with Cherry Tomatoes
  • Bangers & Mash with Onion Gravy & Crispy Cheddar Broccoli

Recipe #1: Chicken Bulgogi Bowls with Roasted Chioggia Beets & Zingy Apple-Cuke Salad

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Servings: 2

All the ingredients were provided for us to make the meal. The instructions were very straightforward. Some chopping, some mixing, some frying then cook and assemble as instructed.

Our kit was only for a serving of 2 but we stretched it for our family of 4 with some additional chicken and rice we expanded our 2 person meal to give us dinner for 4 people plus 2 lunches the next day. Now that is how our family gets meal delivery kits on a budget!

Everyone loved the flavors of the Korean chicken! This is a meal that my family will for sure make again with our own twist.

Recipe #2: Roasted Pepper Braised Chicken over Warm Bulgur with Cherry Tomatoes

Cooking Time: 25 minutes

Servings: 2

This meal was only meant to be for two people, but it easily satisfied two adults and one reluctant kid (see next sentence below).

The flavor of the roasted red pepper sauce combined with the bulgur was delicious. We will for sure be adding bulger to our nightly dinner rotation. This meal would have been five stars had I realized the chicken was thigh meat. Our whole family is not a fan of chicken thighs and I would have passed on this meal if I knew. Next time I know to do my research.

Recipe #3: Bangers & Mash with Onion Gravy & Crispy Cheddar Broccoli

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Servings: 2

This meal intrigued me from the start. I have heard this meal ‘bangers and mash’ being thrown around from time to time but really didn’t know much about it. It was delicious, maybe a bit too out there for the kids, but we, parents, loved it. The gravy was so delicious!!! And who would have thought we could have semi-fancy mash potatoes, gravy, and sausage meal in just over 30 minutes on a Wednesday (due to potato cooking time)?!

To bulk up this meal to feed our whole family we cooked up some of our garden potatoes and more sausages. Plus we even have leftovers for one person’s lunch the next day!

Verdict: As is the case with many people and families, we all get bored with eating the same foods for dinner, day in and day out. I am comfortable to say that even just for the few weeks here and there when we order meal delivery kits, it is a reprieve from the monotonous chore of planning and making the same meals and for that I am thankful. I went out on a limb and tried a few options that looked good to me, but maybe the kids wouldn’t enjoy it. Well, they did eat the meal as it was served, not too much picking it apart. They were well nourished and I can be proud of that as the mom! I find that these meal prep kits are still time-consuming to cook, but there is much less clean-up and no planning on my part. At our home, these delivery kits are a family affair as the instructions are simple enough for both my 10-year-old and 8-year-old to help. Sometimes it almost becomes that we have too many cooks in the kitchen, but I won’t complain when the kids are helping to cook dinner. If you are like me and you think that ordering meal kits all the time becomes too expensive, then use a few of my tips: order small (or the best sale price) and bulk it up with more meat, salad, or vegetables and use the coupons and referrals to save money. Happy Cooking!
