What’s inside the Escape the Crate “Escape the Ripper” Box:
Inside the Escape the Crate are all the clues, puzzles, and items we needed to solve the case of Jack the Ripper. There were two sealed envelopes labeled: The Residence and Whitechapel. These envelopes allow you to play two separate games with your Escape the Ripper box. One family-friendly game, The Residence and a scarier one for adults (PG13), Whitechapel.
We chose to play the family-friendly version, The Residence, with our kids and Grandpa. As a family, the four of us have done a kid-friendly escape room once in the past, so we had some idea of how it all works. It was a new experience for Grandpa, so it took him awhile to get the hang of how to play.
With many bumps along the way, finding missing pieces that had fallen on the floor (oops!) and even some hints to confirm our ideas and some because we had no idea what to do next, we conquered Escape the Ripper!
Verdict:
With the world on “lock-down”, getting out to your favorite neighborhood escape room isn’t always an option. Escape the Crate brings all the thrill and mystery of an Escape Room to your house! The items in the box are well thought out, and all on theme. The website really helps to add to the feel of the game with their professionally produced videos and audio clips. As I indicated earlier, we chose to play the family friendly game (The Residence) with our kids. The recommendation of having adults help kids is definitely true as even us “adults” had to use the hints a few times to solve some puzzles. If you are getting this subscription box for kids, its probably best that they are all over 10 years old, as younger kids will definitely need more help. Eventually, we solved the puzzles and felt a great sense of accomplishment after it was done! The escape room took about 1.5 hours, so for the money, its a great value compared to what a commercial escape room would charge you. Best of all, in this box there were 2 different escape rooms to choose from. The adults will play the Whitechapel version later as it was recommended for an older audience. Now, that we have one Escape the Crate under our belts, I sure hope we can escape the Whitechapel!
