So of course, I felt very excited when I heard that we were getting a new Canadian cooking box coming in the mail! I loved making the apple cider and cake (I still have to make the butternut squash soup)! They were very easy recipes to follow and my whole family thought they tasted delicious! Even my little sister tried them and loved the apple cider! I would recommend CucinaKids to any kids who love cooking and who love to have easy recipes to follow! I can’t wait to see which recipes are in the next box! – Review from Chef Sierra (age 9)

I love discovering and trying new subscription boxes. When Boomerluxe contacted me to review their box, I was very intrigued after having looked at their past boxes. I am not yet part of the 50+ group but I found many of the products were even useful for me as a women in my 30s.

This review is of the Boomerluxe Deluxe Box.

Each Boomerluxe comes with an information card detailing each item in your box for that month, as well as the retail value.

100% Pure Indian Tie-Dye Silk Scarf – $43.00

This silk scarf is stunning and so soft! It has a beautiful, simple tie-dye design and is very elegant and light weight. It is perfect for a lovely spring day and can be dressed up or dressed down.

Elizabeth Grant Collagen Re-Inforced Silk Edition Firming Eye Pads – $24.00

An under eye collagen treatment that immediately transforms eyes from tired and saggy to revived and firm. I am not part of the 50 plus women this box is aimed at, yet I am super excited to try these eye pads.  I am sure even many women under 50 years old would love an under eye boost!

LOVEFRESH Moroccan All Natural Deodorant – $24.00

An all natural deodorant that will keep you smelling fresh all day long. I have tried a few different all natural deodorants which actually work great to keep me smelling fresh all day. I am super excited to try this brand as it is the only all natural deodorant I have tried that is a twist top and doesn’t require me using my finger to put it on.

Ours Calming Everybody Lotion by Cheryl Hickey – $11.99

Everyday natural moisturizer for everybody. Very hydrating formula that combines the relaxing scent of lavender, coconut and olive oil to moisturize sensitive skin. Aloe and cucumber extracts soothe dry skin and leave skin feeling soft and smooth. Lotions are always great to have on hand and I am very impressed at the size of this bottle. It has a rather strong lavender smell, but is still very nice and so far the lotion works great on my hands.

O’MY Topical Pleasure Gel – $8.99

A personal pleasure gel to increase sexual sensation for women.

Verdict: I really enjoyed my first Boomerluxe Box. The items did not seem to be only for the 50+ women but rather any women concerned with aging, I’d say in her mid-30s and up. I very much appreciate and can use every single one of these products and I am in my 30s. By targeting this box as a Baby Boomer box, they are very much limiting their fan base and sales. I would recommend this box to any women, any age who loves trying new products and who loves to make herself feel good.

The value inside this Boomerluxe Deluxe box was definitely worth it! I received over $100 worth of full-sized goodies for less than half the price. My favorite item inside the box is the natural deodorant, I am in love with these natural deodorants and with the upcoming summer season, it will come in very handy and leave me smelling great all day. I also love that this deodorant is part of the Women Supporting Women Program through Boomerluxe.

Alakaban Tea is a new do-it-yourself tea subscription box, that I heard about for the first time when they reached out to me to review their box. They sold out of their first box in January, but I was lucky enough to receive the February box yesterday.

Before receiving my tea box I really did not know much about Alakaban Tea. I knew it was tea directly from Sri Lanka, but when the box came, I was super excited… I get to create my own teas, how cool!!!

Each Alakaban Tea Box comes with an information card detailing each item in your box for that month: the tea, the spices, the flavour bomb/surprise box and other surprises each month.

Another information card inside the box outlines: How to Make Traditional Ceylon Tea, How to Make Your Own Tea Blend and How to Use Our Disposable Strainer

In addition, you can check out the ‘Alakaban Tea’ YouTube channel for instructional videos

Making Plain Tea the Lankan Way:

– Bring ¾ cup water to a boil.

– Add 1 tsp of finely powdered tea leaves into the boiling water.

– Add any Spices. Allow to boil for 2 minutes.

– Strain tea into your cup and then add sugar, usually 2 tsp.

The Tea Estate – Kandy

A whole leaf Orange Pekoe-A, from the hills of Kandy, Sri Lanka. The leaves of this black tea have not been broken or torn and are large and thick. Orange Pekoe-A teas are known world-wide for their rich quality. When brewed this tea has a delicate flavour.

I drink black tea almost everyday. I love it sweeter and with some extra flavours, so I am looking forward to having this for my afternoon tea today.

Spices

Cocoa Nibs- a special Valentine’s Day flavour.

Palmyra Jaggery (Coconut Jaggery)-  jaggery is a famous form of sugar for many Sri Lankans even today. It is an unrefined, non-distilled form of sugar cane. This coconut jaggery is a rare version produced by Ski Lankans using the sap from coconut palms. It is great for nibbling on while enjoying plain tea.

Ceylon Cinnamon- known as ‘true cinnamon’. This cinnamon is lighter in colour, sweeter, and has a delicate scent. Cinnamon has many health benefits and Ceylon cinnamon with its sweeter taste helps reduce the amount of sugar required in desserts and drinks.

Flavour Bomb/Surprise Box – Cupid’s Concoction

Tea bags filled with ground spices that you can add to your prepared tea, as well as, some empty tea bags for you to create your own personally flavoured tea.

This months flavour, Cupid’s Concoction, consists of a mixture of cocoa nibs, cinnamon and coconut jaggery. Just add 1 flavour pouch to 1 cup of plain tea and enjoy!

Spoon & Strainer

A small disposable strainer and two interchangeable clothes to strain your tea from the saucepan to your cup or to steep a single serving of tea in your cup. The clothes are washable and reusable.

A biodegradable wooden spoon to measure your tea. I did notice that the spoon was a little broken, however, I feel lucky knowing this box is supporting local Sri Lankans and their use of raw materials to make many hand-crafted items.

Verdict: I am completely in love with the fabulous, new DIY tea subscription box. Alakaban Tea has taken your average tea box and created an amazing spin on it! The teas, spices, and special surprises each month all have a unique story about them and the area where they are from in Sri Lanka. I love black tea, but this box has taken my everyday tea to a new level. Now I get to be the creator of my own tea! If you are in need of a quick cup of tea, they also provide you with a few pre-filled tea pouches for ease. This is an amazing subscription box that not only provides us with the simple joys a cup of tea brings, but allows us to see a glimpse into Sri Lankan culture and helps directly support them. I cannot wait to try my new tea and choose my spices. It is like crafting but for teas! This is a must have subscription box for tea lovers!

Every day my daughters check the mail box in hopes of something fun for themselves. Surprise…today was the day they got amazing mail!

Once they saw this parcel with their names on it, they could hardly wait for me to take my pictures, so they could begin doing their crafts.

With the chilly weather outside my daughters have been constantly building crafts and playing with items from their Curiosity Box. The option for a sibling add on, was a huge bonus to allow each girl to create her own crafts.

Each Curiosity Box comes with an information card outlining each craft and activity in your box for that month complete with instructions. and any addition facts and activities you can do with your children to supplement the themed learning. The theme in October’s box is “Happy Spook-tacular Halloween”.

*We received two of everything in our box (*sibling add on), but I will only review one of each item as that is what comes in a regular box.

Craft #1: Haunted House

A foam haunted house craft with very simple, easy to follow directions. I did have to help glue the house walls and roof, but by the end even my youngest was having fun gluing and designing her own personalized haunted house.

I love how this craft was complex enough for my 5 year old and simple enough for me 3 year old.  It took some time to complete but it kept their attention the whole time. They were having so much fun deciding where to put their spooky spiders, bats and ghost.

My oldest daughter kept telling her little sister that “her haunted house is the scariest haunted house ever”.

This craft created some amazing sister bonding moments and one happy Momma. 🙂

Little one is playing and pretending to be scared by her haunted house… silly girl!

Craft #2: Reflector Spider Wristband

A quick, simple craft but it does require some thinking to put the eyes and sticky dots on the correct sides of the reflectors in order to fit together properly. Luckily, I was there to help after a few mistakes. 🙂 Of course, once we completed these they wanted to wear them around…not sure they will last until Halloween.

Craft #3: Funny Skeleton Hanging Decoration

What a simple and adorable skeleton craft for little kids. It is fun and educational while teaching a wide range of skills, without kids even realizing. My daughters thought he was so silly with his wobbly arms and legs. Today was very much a fun crafting day by Mommy and the girls!

They had lots of fun decorating their skeletons with puffy paints and are so happy to have them hanging on their bedroom doors.

Activity: Race to the Haunted House for Candy Game

After a quick overview of the simple rules, both girls were easily able to play this game together. They loved how this game was similar to Snakes and Ladders but with a fun Halloween twist.

Other Activity Ideas:

These little extras are an amazing added bonus for continued enjoyment of Curiosity Box even after the crafts are finished. They include items such as toys, accessories, colouring and activity book, quick sticker crafts and other easy family games and activities.

It was so much fun watching my girls play with these sticky pumpkins. I remember these sticky hands from when I was little.

Verdict: This is an amazing subscription box for kids 3-7 years old who love crafts and games. My girls love everything about this box. The Halloween theme definitely allowed them to connect more with the crafts and allowed for some great conversations about real vs. pretend and safety at Halloween time. I love how these crafts and activities have very simple, easy to follow instructions and children can add their own personalization depending on their abilities and level of interest. Curiosity Box is an amazing value with many different crafts, activities, games and toys and is the perfect gift for Christmas and Birthdays.  My girls cannot wait to see which crafts and activities are in next months box.

Now that we are in full swing of summer season and holidays are right around the corner, I could not think of a better subscription box to arrive in my mailbox!

Each RazorCompany.com box comes with a welcome card and a thank you note from one of the founders.

On the opposite side of the card they outline their referral program to earn free razors for yourself. I love these programs…what a great reward for sharing your love for their razors.

The Five-O Razor for Men and Women & 6 extra razors

This is such a useful and necessary product in my house and I am so excited to try these razors. I especially love that this product is for both men and women. I have always purchased men’s razors because I thought they were better than women’s but now I get a razor perfect for men and women!  I did notice that they do not have the lotion strip on the razor itself, but I look forward to using the shaving cream provided.

Conditioning Shave Cream

$24

This shaving cream is loaded with vitamins and anti-oxidants. It is 100% Canadian made and 96% naturally derived. I imagine that a little will go a long way and this bottle will last me a very long time.

Verdict: This box is the perfect box for my summer vacation by the beach! I, like many people, do not enjoy spending so much money on razors, only to throw them in the garbage after a few uses. RazorCompany.com allows you to be in control of how many razors you get and how often you get them delivered. I love how they provide both razors for men and women and even safety razors as well as many additional shaving accessories.  I think these razors are an amazing value and I know once my husband catches on, I will slowly see my razors disappearing as he uses them too.
